  3. Following journeys to Rajputana and Lajhore
  4. he led an expedition across the Hindu Kush to
  5. Bokhara described in his Travels into Bokhara
  6. 1834. In 1836-37 he led a diplomatic mission
  7. to the Afghan leader Dost Mohammed, described
  8. in his book Kabul 1842. He was killed in
  9. Kabul during a rising that sparked off the
  10. first Afghan War.
